Enigma Emerald Mine offers private, machine, & group digs occasionally for fellow rockhounds that are looking for a more remote & non-commercial location to dig.
Enigma Emerald Mine is located in the beautiful foothills of the brushy mountains in Hiddenite, NC. In the late 1800s, William Earl Hidden discovered a rare, new precious stone in the late 1870’s. This area is known for being one of the only locations in the US that produces emeralds.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to find nice crystals in a private mine.
**Please note. This is a primitive area with no facilities or services, though there are service stations, a Dollar General, & the must try Yellow Deli nearby. We suggest you wear suitable clothing and bring your own tools, containers or bucket, as well as food and drinks.
Private Digs
We are currently opening the mine to offer private digs for individuals and groups. Private digs are scheduled when we have no other activities or public digs for the day. The hours may vary depending on the season & lighting, but generally run from around 9AM – 5PM weekdays and weekends. Waivers will be required & provided on site.
Machine Digs
For the serious rockhound, you can also contact us about scheduling a day at the mine with a machine for an additional fee.
Group Digs
We have hosted several rock & mineral clubs as well as students from local universities. Contact us here or on our Facebook page to schedule a date.
